2012 was the first year that we raised turkeys on Vernal Vibe Rise. Our beginning rafter of two grew happily on pasture alongside our other poultry, and both ended the year in mid-November, one weighing in at 22 lbs and one at a whopping (and delicious) 31.8 lbs! In 2013, we raised Bronze and Black Spanish heritage turkeys for market, and in 2014 we tried Bourbon Reds, Lavenders, and Chocolates.
2015 is the first year that VVR will be operating a proper breeding program for our critically-endangered heritage turkeys: Chocolates (and one Lavender hen in the mix). We look forward to a full field and beautiful birds for the Thanksgiving table. As with all VVR livestock, our turkeys are raised in an organically-managed, rotational pasture system with only GMO-free supplemental feed and organic nutrients and minerals.
